 Vernon is considered the Gateway to the Okanagan. Located at the north end of Okanangan Lake, Vernon is a thriving city of over 33,000. Established in the early 1800's by fur traders, the area began to grow and become more prosperous as fur trading gave way to gold mining in the area.
Around the 1870's the fledgling settlement of Priest's Valley (later renamed Vernon) had a post office, hotel, general store and more. In 1887 the Hudson's Bay realized the potential of Vernon and erected a store. This was the year the town was renamed to Vernon. This was also the year that other large companies began to realize the potential of the new town.
Soon after this, the CPR main line ws completed and in 1890 a branch line running from the main line to the north was began that ran through Vernon and then further south. After this, the population really began to grow. The center of town moved to its current location and brick buildings began to spring up. Sidewalks soon followed and in 1892 the city of Vernon was incorporated.

ernon is home to many well known companies and some of it's primary employers include forestry, farming and mining. With an average temperature of around 20 degrees Celcius in July and just below freezing in January making Vernon a four season playground. The city is home to some more famous tenants as well, including Silver Star Mountain one of the world's premiere mountain resorts offering skiing hiking, and snowshoeing in the winter, and mountain biking and horseback riding in the summer.
